KU ISTANBUL-The Living Laser
Systems approach in many domains of biological sciences requires large amounts of imaging data across different length and time scales. To step up into high throughput screening methods required for diagnostics and basic research purposes, multiplexed labeling, uniquely tagging, and tracking individual cells, and increasing the penetration depth of light into tissues are demanded. In order to meet these necessities, here we are demonstrating the living laser which is a morphosis of cells into lasers by building natural resonators on the surface of cells using novel gene circuits. We will be exploring the stability, feasibility, and practicality of these biological lasers in four main application domains: picking quality oocytes for IVF, tracking cancer cells over long periods of time, sensing internal and external changes of cells and creating a novel technique for characterization of cells and tissues.
Physicist of the team is here! Excited by simple things, loves working with order of magnitudes from -6 to -9. I am dreaming of E.coli flagella helping me pedalling at Le Tour de France. So, moving the Giant Jamboree to Paris for the next year is a good sign for me
I've joined Koç University as an undergraduate student in 2019. Shortly after, I became a member of the growing IGEM community in Hasan Demirci's laboratory. As a molecular biology major, I believe, biology will revolutionize our approach to global problems humanity faces today. I joined the Koç University IGEM team to explore, learn, and find solutions in a global scale. First I must climb to shoulders of giants, to see further, to think further. Hopefully, one day I will.
Oktay GOCENLERHeyy, I am Özgür,I am an undergrad student at Molecular Biology and Genetics Department in Koc University. After 1 and a half year with İgem (in highschool) as a team member, now i can finally work in the mysterious and intriquing paths of the synthetic biology as an iGEMmer again! Finding new ways to solve problems and answering my own questions while i am making my dreams come true; that is the real story behind the synthetic biology. For me science can be really fun and an endless journey. So we should not waste any time ! To infinity and Beyond.!
Özgür CANHello, I am İsmail Hakkı Yeşil! I am in my sophomore year in Computer Engineering. My interest in biology is more about combining new technologies with biological approaches to solve the mysteries of human brain. I joined iGEM to compete in an interdisciplinary environment and enhance my knowledge about biology!
İsmail Hakkı YeşilI studied in science high school in my hometown, Usak. From the moment I examined a leaf under a microscope when I was 8, I have been curious about the mysteries of life. I wanted to be a scientist for my whole life. In KUYBIM, I have the chance to become a good one. I am a sophomore at Koç University and this is my first semester in KUYBIM
Ali Doga YucelI studied at High School of Science in Samsun. I was passionate about biology ever since I was a child and I always had different projects in my mind. It is my dream to make my projects come true and explore more. In pursuance of this dream, I attended project olympiads with several projects and I received Bronze medal. I am currently a sophomore at Koç University and knowing that I am few steps closer to my dream with KUYBIM excites me. I hope to learn and achieve more by being a member of the KUYBIM!
Ayşe Buket PEKSENUntil university, I educated at Armenian schools. I entered Koc University in 2016 as a Nurse. I'm part of the our schools rowing team since 2017. In 2018, I had a lab internship at Ph.D. Özlem Yalçın's Hemorology, Hemodynamics and Vascular Biology labratory. We worked on deformability and fregmentation of RBCs. I started to double major with MBGE in FALL 2019 term. Also I'm actively an International Comission Representetive of our school in ÖHDER. And I'm a part of our schools IGEM team with the assistance of Asst. Prof. Hasan Demirci.
Serena ÖzabrahamyanHi everyone! My name is Laşin. I'm a second year medical student having a double major with molecular biology and genetics. The reason why I am here is because I love research. Cancer biology and immunology are the fields that I have had a chance to work on and enjoy research. I would like to be a medical doctor with a strong research background in the future. I think IGEM is one of the right starting points for my dreams.
Laşin ÖzbekHello, I am Ahmet Rasim, I am doing a double major in electrical and electronics engineering and physics departments at Koç University. My interests include nano-optics and optoelectronics, as well as work on machine learning algorithms and autonomous driving algorithms. I am currently the captain of our school's full-scale autonomous toolkit and teaching assistant in python lessons. In our current project, I also carry out tasks such as preparing computational models, performing quantitative analysis of methods such as Flow cytometry and Gel densitometry.
Ahmet Rasim EmirdağıI'm studying Molecular Biology and Genetics at Koç University. During my high school, I'm amazed by DNA and human body.Helping people who suffer from diseases such as cancer and diabetes is my motivation. My endless journey has been started when I joined the IGEM team.
Being curious about life and its principles, I cannot resist myself to study Molecular Biology and Genetics. There is too much to learn, explore and invent!
I always loved science. At high school I decided to study biology, specifically molecular biology. This year I started to Koç University Molecular Biology and Genetics major as an undergraduate student. Right after that I joined the IGEM team. I’m passionate for biology and I know I’m in right place for this!
